About Vinegar Hill
Why Vinegar Hill? Vinegar Hill is a small rise outside the town of Enniscorthy, in Co. Wexford, Ireland. On the hill are the remains of an old mill. It was the site of the last battle of the 1798 rebellion against the British in Co. Wexford. The 1798 rebellion, inspired by the success of America's fight for independence, was the only major uprising where Catholic and Protestant fought side by side against the English Crown. In our repertoire, the song Boolavogue tells the story of the Co. Wexford rebels, and their leader Father Murphy.
On the whole, the band favors the 1798 rebellion because of the unity shown by Catholics and Protestants as they fought together to make Ireland a united land under its own rule. We believe the path to unity and peace in Ireland must be taken down the long overgrown trail that was blazed in 1798... United Irishmen and Irishwomen, regardless of religion, coming together for the cause of justice, and an end to colonialism.

Ted Mueller: Guitarist. Fine musician. Very critical of his abilities, but generous of others. Likes to hide on stage, thus the nick name the invisible man. By-product of the 60's, devoted to American folk & protest music from that era. Ted has traded Phil Ochs rebel tunes for Dominic Behan rebel tunes.

Michael Cunningham: Guitarist & Backup Vocalist. Wears a cap because he's bald, dressed in black to divert attention from his guitar playing. A true faux-renaissance man: student of many disciplines, master of none. His love for Celtic music and all things Irish has inspired him to create many of our original compositions. Has a deep love and appreciationof God's earth and nature, probably imbued by his Irish/Indian roots

Steve Cunningham: Bass Player. Has formed and played with many local Rock and Country bands since 1963. Always sitting in with some band that needs an exceptional bass player. Has been around longer than the Beatles and looks like it. No longer new to Irish music, he's been known to kick up his heels on occasion, sing along while playing bass, and enjoy a Guiness as well.

Chip Stalter: Lead Male Vocalist & occasional Bodhran Player. Involved in choral music since Jr. High School, and practiced singing lead in the mornings after Mom & Dad went to work. Member of St. John Neumann choir, Sunbury, Ohio. Owns more instruments that he can't really play than anyone else in the band. Blames the whole Irish music thing on Pat Mogan of the Irish Brigade, who asked him to sing Danny Boy with them at a concert, and his "shanty-Irish" grandfather who inspires him to this day.
